Facebook remains one of the web’s largest public video libraries — local news, marketplace demos, event recordings, and years of community history. But its interface buries old posts and offers no download button. Here is how to save what matters.
What can (and cannot) be downloaded
The rule is publicity, not platform:
- Works: public page videos, public group posts, fb.watch share links, finished live replays.
- Does not work: friends-only posts, members-only groups, currently-live broadcasts, anything behind a login wall.

Handling hour-long videos on mobile
Facebook videos run far longer than Reels — a community meeting can exceed an hour and several hundred megabytes. Download over Wi-Fi, confirm free storage first, and consider whether you need video at all: a two-hour talk as 192kbps MP3 is roughly a tenth the size and our Audio path handles Facebook links too.
When pages and groups disappear
